Moon Machines

Today I will talk about an interesting documentary video titled “Moon Machines: The Navigation Computer” produced by the Science Channel in the year 2009. It showed us a part of the story of how it was achieved one of the most important goals for the United States. The beginning of the documentary was kind of stressful and interesting because they show you images of failures that had to be faced by NASA engineers, and how they raised the challenge of creating a navigation system.

This topic is new for me, I did not know much about these machines and I find it interesting to learn something new but above all to meet engineers capable of manufacturing the future. The fact that a gyroscope gave access to something so complex and precise is also to draw attention.

Also, I find it interesting enough because I have read theories that say these missions were set up, that the USA were never really in the space it was just to show power, but seeing this video and all it was done to achieve it I can tell that they are only theories.

Another thing I really remember is how a computer was entrusted with human lives, in a mission as dangerous as going to space and responding in a perfect way is striking, although all this is due to the work of hundreds of people with calculations and years of hard work.

I first didn't understand the relation between the documentary and the class, but when they encountered some problems which I could co-relate in a very distant way I understood the importance of research, planning, and design of software and hardware. So, in conclusion, I think we have a responsibility to improve every process we can, given that we have better technology and understanding of it.
